The Ohio State Fair's inclusive pig show event offered people between the ages of nine and 22 with intellectual or developmental disabilities the chance to show pigs in a fair arena.

The 170th Ohio State Fair is open for its 12-day run, featuring dozens of agricultural competitions and exhibits, concerts, rides, cooking demonstrations, and of course all sorts of fried foods.

The Ohio State Fair hopes new additions to the event can ensure Ohioans of all abilities are able to attend.

Ohio has more than 400 licensed wineries in the state, creating 41,000 full-time positions. The Ohio State Fair invited 16 of them to showcase their award-winning products and talk about the industry.

A recent brawl at the Trumbull County Fair and a shooting at a festival in Macedonia are among recent incidents prompting officials to up security precautions at county fairs as well as the Ohio State Fair.

Festivities at the Ohio State Fair officially kicked off in Columbus on Wednesday morning with a ceremonial ribbon cutting by Gov. Mike DeWine and his family and the blasting of confetti cannons held by state officials.

The longest-serving general manager of the Ohio State Fair will officially retire at the end of February, after announcing his decision to do so last summer.

In addition to the new butter sculpture, a new attraction at the 168th Ohio State Fair this year includes free admission to the Ohio History Center.

Some members of the General Assembly think the state should at least look at finding a new home for the fair, possibly away from Columbus.

More concerts and events are scheduled to be announced over the next two weeks.
