A juvenile was killed and five people were hurt in a shooting that happened early Friday morning in east Columbus.

Columbus Division of Police Sgt. Joe Albert says the shooting happened in the 800 block of Wilson Avenue just south of East Livingston Avenue.

A call about the shooting was received just after 2:40 a.m.

Police say officers arrived at the scene and found three victims.

Three additional shooting victims went to area hospitals for treatment. One person went to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. Another person went to Ohio State East Hospital and was listed as stable.

Two of the victims, including the person killed, were juveniles. The other four victims were adults.

Officials didn't say if the juvenile who was killed died at the scene or at a hospital. That person's name has not been released.

Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther issued the following statement:

"I am deeply saddened and angry that we lost a young person to violence last night, and that several others were injured. While violence in our city is at its lowest level in more than a decade, incidents like this are a stark reminder that we must stay vigilant in preventing harm to our youth and neighbors. I urge resident on the South Side to share any tips with the Columbus Division of Police. And I ask everyone to celebrate safely and responsibly this holiday weekend."

Columbus City Council President Shannon Hardin released the following statement:

"I’m angry and heartbroken that yet another life was taken and five more people were injured in a shooting on the South Side last night. This kind of violence never has a place in our city—yet it keeps happening. As we enter the 4th of July weekend, I’m calling on everyone in Columbus to step up. Celebrate responsibly. Speak out. Look out for each other. Let's work together to keep Columbus safe."

Malissa Thomas StClair, founder/CEO of Mothers of Murdered Columbus Children, a non-profit dedicated to preventing violence in the city, issued the following statement:

"Last night, we went to bed so proud of our city – celebrating Red, White, and Boom together with no major incidents reported. But this morning, we woke up devastated by the news of yet another tragedy. At 2:41am, a shooting at a party in an Airbnb took the life of a juvenile and left five others injured. Our hearts break for the family who now must face an unimaginable loss. We send our deepest condolences, love, and prayers to them during this painful time.

It is crucial for all of us – parents, guardians, neighbors, and community leaders – to remain vigilant. Our children should be home safe by the designated city curfew. We must know where they are, who they are with, and what environments they’re entering. Neighbors, if you see large gatherings occurring, especially at Airbnbs or rental properties in your area, please contact the property owner and law enforcement immediately – particularly if minors are present after midnight. We must hold each other accountable to keep our youth safe.

We are dedicated to saving lives. But it takes all of us being invested in saving one another. Let’s work together to end this cycle of violence."

There's no word about a suspect or arrests.

It's not clear what led to the shooting.
